BlackBerry 7 and 7.1 OS Achieve FIPS 140-2 Certification

Waterloo, ON – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced that BlackBerry® smartphones running on the powerful new BlackBerry® 7 and BlackBerry® 7.1 Operating Systems (OS) have been awarded FIPS 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 is recognized by the U.S. and Canadian governments and is required under the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA).

All BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry 7 and BlackBerry 7.1 benefit from this certification, including the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900, 9930 and 9790, BlackBerry® Torch™ 9850, 9860 and 9810, and BlackBerry® Curve™ 9350, 9360, 9370 and 9380.

The native application center on BlackBerry PlayBook – App World has been very simple overall with nominal exploring areas since arrival. But this is about to change in upcoming major update to OS 2.0. From the image it seems like the splash screen will have a ‘Feature’ dock at top(as on smartphones) with categorized apps placed in the below slider. The big app-shots also hint large size app screenshots which is much needed for a better preview. The final version however will reveal everything than just skinning of App World with Android listings.  Stay tuned for more findings as we get closer to BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 release.

			The start of 2012 has been very intuitive for all BlackBerry fans. From Tablet OS 2.0 at CES to BlackBerry PlayBook 3G appearance last week, the excitement hasn’t been halted yet. Today, Kevin from CrackBerry made us lucky to get an early glance of highly anticipated upcoming BlackBerry 10 Superphone! The sleek & stylish codenamed “London” is a lot like PlayBook with the similar corners and the All-Black theme.


BlackBerry 10 Superphones are officially announced to sport PlayBook’s similar 1200×600 resolution screen making it one high end display device. The image also reveals a front facing camera which enables video chat compatibility for the first time on a BlackBerry phone. According to rumors, the Superphone will be charged with a 1.5GhZ dual-core processor & is still under testing to choose the right chip. We hope the upcoming Mobile World Conference later this month brings us more exciting BlackBerry 10 sightings :D

  • Before submitting your Android application to BlackBerry App World, please make sure to remove all mention of the word “Android” from your application. Both in the application description and the application itself.

  • Please remove all links to Android Market from within your application.
    • 

  • When submitting your Android application to BlackBerry App World, please make sure to select a minimum BlackBerry PlayBook OS of 2.0.
    • 

  • Please make sure your application is signed. For more information on code signing, please view the code signing documentation on the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps webpage (linked here).

Yet another great Giveaway completed at BBin sponsored by RIM. This month’s winner was chosen from public votes amongst short-listed entries from BBin Team. Pretty close competition between the winner (Vasundhara) & Runner up (Gagandeep), won by just 0.5% of votes collected from Comments and Facebook Question votes. Commenting on the featured post was our primary count but as we also asked on Facebook fan page we took that into consideration but without merging the results.




Gagandeep wins at Facebook votes Total votes of 802 on Facebook with huge margin win by Gagandeep Singh at 66% where Vasundhara Kashyap get only 10% votes. On the other hand Vasundhara wins on comments by 63% against Gagandeep’s 6.5%.


After doing this mathemeatics we get the result as:

One of early games demoed by RIM at CES2011 – Quake III Arena is now available to sideload. Thanks to sergeh from CrackBerry Forums who managed to compile Quake III source files which was earlier uploaded at Github by RIM.

  1. Sideload bar Side Load PlayBook Apps (Windows)

  2. We need to create a folder and a subfolder in /misc like so /misc/quake3/baseq3

  3. If you have a legal version of Quake III Arena you may transfer your pak0.pk3 from the installation cd (found in /baseq3) to the baseq3 folder on your PlayBook. Otherwise you can use the demo .pk3 found here
    4. 

  4. Start the game!

Download any maps you’d like from Map Factory – the game map database and copy them to your /baseq3 folder
