RIM did not but Indian Govt. responds

I think Research In Motion (RIM) has more serious business to look after rather than solving Indian Government issues which was raised 2 weeks before. Indian government posed a 15 day deadline to RIM to respond on their appeal but after 17days (today), government planned to look into the same issue more closely.

We have commenced a process of examining the matter internally on what is required to address these issues (security concerns). As and when we find there is a necessity to hold discussions with service providers, we will do that…

– IT Secretary R Chandrashekhar said on the sidelines of a CII event.

In detail – The government had raised security concerns over the Blackberry devices, Skype and Gmail services, as the data going through their networks is encrypted and not accessible to security agencies here.

The government is also considering whether to amend IT laws to make it mandatory for such foreign companies that do not require a local licence to provide all the data required by Indian law enforcement agencies.
