UAE to halt BlackBerry services from October 11


Extremely sad news to Emirati and others in the UAE, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said that BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry e-mail and BlackBerry Web-browsing services in the UAE will be suspended as of October 11.

Etisalat and Du, the UAE telecommunications operators were informed earlier today and shocked not only UAE but also us in India. Same issue is with Indian Government. This issue was brought up with Skype and Gmail but have no news about other two or we missed out.

In the public interest, we have today informed the providers of telecommunications services in the country of our decision to suspend the Blackberry services of messenger, email and electronic browsing.

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority chief Mohammed al-Ghanem said, WAM reported.
