It is really a surprise, was waiting for some gulping news to arrive officially. [Watch what really TAT works as in the posted videos below]. Couple of hours before RIM officially announced on their blog post by RIM’s CTO, David Yach. They have acquired tat – The Astonishing Tribe – which as David says:

Today we are pleased to confirm plans for The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) team to join Research In Motion (RIM). We’re excited that the TAT team will be joining RIM and bringing their talent to the BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphone platforms.

For those who don’t know, TAT is renowned for their innovative mobile user interface (UI) designs and has a long history of working with mobile and embedded technology. TAT focuses on delivering great user experiences, from a design, technology, and usability perspective. TAT could be a major pickup for BlackBerry maker RIM. The company, which is based in Sweden, makes several different products for mobile device makers, and it’s invested in the Android market with its “custom home screen,” called TAT Home. That offering delivers gesture navigation and 3D widgets, and according to the company, is designed to give users more control over the “look and feel of the Android home screen.”

The Playbook, RIM’s entry into the hot tablet market, is due in the first quarter of 2011.

A year old video I found on tat’s videos, showing their UI working on Nokia device as well, so I can imagine how far they can go with high-end devices and I gotta tell you, they know what they doing!
