Tablet OS 1.0.5.2304 Update for Blackberry PlayBook

Long awaited BlackBerry PlayBook OS update is now available!

BlackBerry PlayBook Charging and Battery Pop-up:

  • The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet can now be charged even when fully powered down.
  • BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5 now alerts you if you are using an incorrect charger with your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. For example, if you accidentally plug a BlackBerry smartphone charger into the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet you will now receive an alert on the screen to let you know that this charger will not charge your tablet.
  • After touching the battery indicator on the top right corner of the home screen, a pop-up will appear and you can now choose to restart the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, turn it off, or put it into standby mode. You can also adjust the screen brightness from this same pop-up.

Additional Language Support:

With BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5, we have added support for the following languages: French, Italian, Dutch, German, Spanish, and UK English.

Video Chat Connectivity:

We’ve added support for the TURN (Traversal Using Relay NAT) protocol, which enhances Video Chat connections between users when their call is crossing between a public network and an enterprise network behind a firewall.

Wi-Fi Hotspot Detection:

Automatic Wi-Fi hotspot detection in the BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5 makes it easier to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot (at a coffee shop or airport, for example) during the set up process.

Headset Audio Boost:

This new option allows you to add an extra level of volume to help maintain an enjoyable audio experience with your headset in noisier areas, such as airplanes.

How to upgrade to BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5

Users who purchase and activate a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on or after Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 will be automatically updated to v1.0.5 as part of the BlackBerry PlayBook setup process. Existing BlackBerry PlayBook users will be presented with a software update notification on the BlackBerry PlayBook status ribbon, or they can go check for the software update at any time in the Settings Menu under Software Updates.

A fine update, really expecting Adobe Flash 10.3 on BlackBerry PlayBook with this update. Sadly not out yet while Adobe is being updated to all platforms.

Noticed BlackBerry App World got some changes too. Top navigation bar

  1. I’m really glad they added that back button in the App World however; I’m really disappointed the following are still missing or need to be fixed:

-Blackberry App world needs to be able to scroll side to side between titles: NEWEST, TOP FREE, TOP PURCHASED Etc…
-Major CODEC compatibility (I’d like to see an app that adds codecs too if possible like K-lite)
-Bridge doesn’t detect media files stored in my phone. It’d be nice if they added the ability to transfer/copy files back and forth as well.
    -Bridge doesn’t copy/Paste in email
    -Can’t see/send sms/mms messages
    -Needs Swype
    -Universal Search like OS6/7
-Turn-by-Turn voice guided GPS (I’d even be willing to pay for an App that can save the maps and updates on the PB as well)
-Spell Checker & add to Dictionary option like my phone.
-File managing for my apps and bookmarks. Be able to rename my bookmarks and arrange them in folders like Windows)
    – That “Dot” in Android that easily helps you fix misspelled or change words.
    -Native BBM App
    – USB hosting to connect external devices like printers, Digital cameras and external Hard drives.
-Camera Zoom when using the video camera
Camera needs to shoot pictures quicker- feels sluggish to take pics
-Yahoo Messenger, Skype and OoVoO- what good is the front facing cam if you can’t put it to good use!
    -Silverlight

    • You want everything a Windows PC could do, even silverlight lol !

      Codec – YES
Bridge files – YES (i got 3rd party app where i can explore and copy files from SDcard to Playbook)
SMS over bridge – not necessary
      Skype – YES!
      Universal search – YES
Native BBM also YES because people spending $500+ on BlackBerry product and no BBM? Hmmm

      • Lol, pretty much bro. I’m paying as much as a computer, I want my features as I know the other consumers do too. Besides, I think these ideas will help RIM not to mention we bought this because this is supposed to be the ‘first prossesional grade tablet’. Unfortunately we been having trouble with the simplest things such as opening power point presentations. I also think such things are common and basic functions. I’m a die hard Blackbery fan and it’s the only reason I still keep hope alive that they will improve it and even come up with more innovative ways to make Apple and Android fans want to switch, although we are far from it, lol.
